Given the abundant number of fonts Bodoni engraved, it is unrealistic to speak of Bodoni as a single design.
Riccardo Olocco and Jonathan Pierini have reinterpreted his work in a contemporary key. The difficult aspect in the design of Parmigiano Typographic System was establishing coherent relationships between weights and varied optical formats: Piccolo, Caption, Text, Headline.
The design is based on close analysis of the Manuele Tipografico, but Parmigiano goes a step further to imagine what Bodoni would have done if he had worked in digital. The authors maintain that their typographic system is an “irreverent descendant” of Bodoni’s work in that it includes styles (such as Sans) that Bodoni would never have thought to produce.
