Among the first typefaces designed directly for the new digital technology, particularly interesting for its design slant, Our Bodoni was designed in 1989 by Tom Carnase for Massimo Vignelli’s graphic design studio and realised in digital form by the World Typeface Center, an American foundry set up in 1980. Indeed, to satisfy the requirements to match it with Helvetica, the functionalist typeface preferred at Studio Vignelli, Carnase designed Bodoni with headings in four different stroke weights, with a higher x-height, a consequent reduction of the height of ascendants and descendants and a more marked general colour.
In comparison with Bauer Bodoni the font has characteristics that, quite rightly, led it to be named «Our Bodoni».
