Bodoni Types
Bodonian characters have been a point of reference for printers in the past and still are today. Hundreds of designs stemming from his models have been made over the two centuries since his death, in all the technical modalities experimented right up to the present day: from the punch matrix system to Monotype and Linotype, from wooden lettering to tracing transfers, from phototypesetting to digital characters.
In other words we could say that, faced with Bodoni’s models, we encounter one of the so-called “classics.” By classic we mean an original legacy that, over the course of time, adapts to the formal needs of printing, rendering itself “more appropriate” to them, offering printers numerous – if not infinite – possibilities of interpretation.
